GATEHOUSE CLASSIC ESOL International Qualifications are designed for candidates who are not native speakers of English and who wish to achieve a high quality, internationally recognised qualification in English that is available and recognised worldwide. They are designed to reference the descriptions of language proficiency in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The qualification is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations (Ofqual) in England and part of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

The qualification is available at all the levels of the CEFR: for all levels the exam consists of four separate components, each assessing one of the four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

The qualification has been designed to reflect the four domains as specified by CEFR: the public domain, the personal domain, the educational domain and the occupational domain. All assessment tasks use familiar and routine contexts that learners are familiar with.

Assessments are via materials written and set by Gatehouse Awards. The qualification is available on demand.
